Granola Cereal


4 c. old-fashioned oats
1 c. shredded coconut
1/2-1 c. chopped or slivered almonds (can also add after baking)
1 c. rice krispie cereal
1/2 c. raisins (can also add after baking)
1/2 c. craisins (can also add after baking)
1/2 c. chopped dry apple (can also add after baking)
1/2-1 c. honey *
1/3-2/3 c. canola oil *
1/2 c. peanut butter
optional: 1/2 c. sunflower seeds (shelled) (can also add after baking)
optional: add 1-2 c. flake cereal (such as total or raisin bran)
of course all ingredients are optional, add more of your favorite extras :)

mix well.
spread out and bake in large baking pan at 300 degrees for 40 minutes, stirring at 20 min. and at 30 min.
cool.
eat a bowl full with milk :)
store in airtight container. use or freeze within 2 weeks.


*use greater amount if you like having chunks of granola, the lesser amount will yield a more crumby granola

I recommend adding the nuts and fruit after baking - the nuts are better for you that way and it keeps the fruit from having that burnt sugar taste.

thanks for the tip michele! i'll give it a try next time (the apples were a little too crispy in one of my batches!)
