Blanton Museum of Art

FYI the Blanton Museum of Art on the UT campus here in Austin is FREE on Thursdays. See their website for map/parking info. It is also situated near the UT shuttle. I'm not going to lie and say art museums are the best activities to bring kids, but it is doable with one or two. You just have to be quick. I'd recommend an hour to an hour and half, tops. Be sure to check out an audio guide from the front (also free) to hear about certain pieces in the museum.

We went with our 1-year-old and 4-year-old last week and had a good time. Talk about the no-touching policy before you go; and if your kids are not big enough to follow that, strap them in a stroller (you can check one out at the front desk).
Warning: be sure to note which room as an adult-only exhibit so you can avoid it with your little ones.

Outside, they have a tactile exhibit that is lots of fun for young and old:

We call this one 'Spaghetti World'
